Book about Hertfordshire
« on: Thursday 20 January 05 13:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Have just received a late Christmas present - Tracing your family history in Hertfordshire by HALS

Looks good at first glance - will let you know more when I get chance to read it - instead of being on here!!

By the way I tried HALS for a check up - it's down to 20 mins for £5 - mine was a negative answer - ie no William Batemans born  Ware 1760 - but at least it means I can now search elsewhere!!

Cheers

Keith

That sounds good, I've got lots of family in Hertfordshire so would be interested what you think of the book.

btw - Have you seen William Bateman christened 24.02.1760 in Barkway, Herts ?  Father's name is Thos. (presumably Thomas) and mother Sarah ? (on IGI)

Hi Helen,

Will let you know re book.

Yes I have found that William Bateman - thanks - but can't find a link between my William who married Hannah Lambert in Great Amwell in 1795 and the one in Barkway!!

Still I'm sure if I keep banging my head against the brickwall - something will give in the end - hopefully the wall !!! ;D ;D ;D

Cheers

Hi Lyn,

I have put a review up on Hertfordshire Books - top of the page I think.

It doesn't give any names etc - just ideas on what and where to look - I have a couple of Militia Lists for Ware and Barkway - but sorry no Collins or Catlin mentioned.

I would post the details on a separate heading - on this page - someone might be able to help.

If I can help  - don't be afraid to ask - the people on this site are great, so keep asking!!

Have a look at my website - lots of names from Hertfordshire - might have some connections - mine are mostly around Ware but some at Layston - which is getting near you!!

Cheers
