NZ Herald lookup please - completed

Hi I am looking for the following death notice.

It is for a Robert William COPPELL died in October or November 1968.

From what I understand the will at Auckland Archives says he was retired in New Lynn.

I have tried cemeteries around there  with no luck so far.

Any other ideas would be of help.

Did you try Waikumete cemetery?

Can't find an online Index - but you could give them a call, they may have the database computerised and can tell you over the phone.

Another thing to try - do you know who conducted the funeral?
If the Funeral Director is still in business - try giving them a call. They are usually very helpful.

Yes I have tried Waikumete Cemetery with no luck.

I have no idea who the funeral director is that is why I need someone to look for the death notice for me in the NZ Herald.

I am in Christchurch and we don't have the NZ Herald on Microfilm down here.

You may also like to try the "Mangere Cemetery and Crematorium".    They don't have an email facility but if you "google",  you'll find their mailing address and a telephone number.   (I recently pointed someone in this direction (with some luck) , when they were looking for a burial for a former New Lynn resident).

For a death notice look-up, you realistically need to be able to supply the date of death or burial.    It would be an enormous task to search newspapers for the months of October and November - even more so with the very large editions of the "NZ Herald" !

If you are unable to find Robert's burial, then perhaps it's worth requesting a look-up of his probate record at Archives NZ Auckland office.   This record will have his date of death.

Thanks for that.   I have searched the online cemeteries in Auckland with no sucess and have checked with the Mangere Cemetery as well.  No luck there.

I will add a request for someone to look up his will for the date of death.

Christchurch Library doesn't have the NZ Herald on microfilm !

Christchurch only has the Press on Microfilm

I have also search the NZSG Burial Locator as well with no luck.

Only the Auckland City Library and Manukau Reading Rooms have the NZ Herald on Fiche.

[And of course the "NZ Herald" and other NZ newspapers are available at the National Library / Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington].
