Abbey Workhouse, Renfrewshire*COMPLETED*
« on: Wednesday 04 June 08 00:46 BST (UK) »
Hello, ;)

A first timer here and from the other side of the world.    Wondering if there was anybody out there that maybe could help.

My gggrandfather died in the Abbey Poorhouse in 1867.    A cousin of mine gave me the workshouse site, but apparently no informants are listed.   Is there any other way that I could get this information.

Ta :)

The information on the Poorhouse in Paisley is kept at the Paisley Library. I think the e-mail address is locstuds.els@renfrewshire.gov.uk   If that dosn't work try looking for the Paisley library in High St. Paisley. Helen

You are welcome. The ladies name that I corresponded with is Ms McLean. The copy I got gave the reason my Great Great Grandfather was there and named his children etc. this was in 1913, so I am not sure what they have for your time frame but it is worth a try. Helen

Hi KHP

I spotted this and thought of you

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,303069.0.html

The Paisley Library have poor law volumes between 1839 and 1930. They are a great source of info and Paisley's are pretty good.

When the library email you back worth asking them if they can send snail mail or by email their booklet on Family History sources for Renfrewshire. That tells you who has what specifically what is held locally by the library. I've always found them very helpful by email or phone outside of trips home.

Happy hunting
