HMS Ark Royal in Liverpool today
« on: Friday 06 June 08 12:37 BST (UK) »
Hello All

The Ark Royal will be arriving in Liverpool today at approx 1 pm (30 minutes from now). You can see the ship arriving at the new cruise liner terminal on this webcam

http://www.wirralcam.org/waterfront.shtml

This is really exciting for us as the Ark Royal has never visited before - she will be in Liverpool until lunch time Monday.

On the bottom of the wirralcam website there is also a link to AIS shipping information which shows all the ships in Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea. Can't see the Ark Royal there yet - so maybe it is running a bit late!

Hope you enjoy the views!

Regards

Ruby

Hi Annie

You can still see it on the webcam but its a bit grey and overcast today so its not showing up very well. I'm going to see it tomorrow so if I get a decent photo I'll put it up for you.

Was there two navel ships in? My son picked me up from hospital just after ten this morning. Said he was told a ship was coming in ,so on the way home we stopped at the viewing  lane. There was a ship there then and it was long before 11 A.M.

Hi Annie

Bit of confusion with time zones here! Ark Royal arrived Liverpool on Friday 6th June (our time)  - and will be leaving Monday lunchtime. I am hoping to go and see her today, Sunday and I'll let you know how I get on. She was only open to the public yesterday (Saturday) so I won't be going on board. Apparently there were massive queues yesterday of people wanting to go on board and I'm not up for standing in queues for hours - life's too short!

Celia, as far as I know there is only one ship in so what you saw was probably the Ark Royal. I hope you are okay and that the visit to hospital was for routine matters.

Regards

Ruby

The crew are marching through Leeds today.

Apparently the City of Leeds collected money to pay for the new Arc Royal after one was sunk in 1941.

Wish I could get there to see them.

Hi Annie

Here are a couple of photos of the ship - I'm not the greatest photographer in the world but you will get the idea. Really sunny in Liverpool today and lots and lots of people down at the cruise liner terminal and the Pier Head.

I also took photos of some of the monuments at the Pier Head, especially for you! I'll post them separately and hope they don't make you too homesick!
