HALL (from Hackford, Reepham, Norfolk) to E R Yorkshire 1860's
« on: Saturday 07 June 08 13:18 BST (UK) »
I am researching my paternal roots from Hackford/Reepham, Aylsham, Norfolk to E R Yorkshire sometime mid 1860's.
ROBERT HALL born Hackford 1847 came to E R YORKSHIRE married ELLEN ST PAUL @ HOLME UPON SPALDING MOOR 1868. They lived  after marriage in HOSM, had several children all of whom lived either in HOSM, or lived in nearby areas. ROBERT WAS AG LAB/FARMER. 2 Granddaughters still living 1 in HOSM age 98 yrs, 1 Sutton on Derwent age 88 yrs.

I am trying to ascertain how he came to E R Yorkshire, I have found a male HALL also from Norfolk residing in Pocklington area and wondered if they are of some relation.

1881 CENSUS  JOHN HALL 62  ABT 1819  BORN  LETTON, NORFOLK, AG LAB
WIFE  ESTHER
ADDRESS           SOUTHGATE,
REG DIST           POCKLINGTON,
CIVIL PARISH    MARKET WEIGHTON AND ARRAS
OTHER MEMBERS
CHARLES W HALL
FRED HALL
JOHN HALL
TOM HALL

Can anyone find them on 1861 & 71 and future census's please ??
Can anyone find out if Esther is from E R Yorkshire and if they married here ??
I am wondering if this could be an Uncle or Cousin of Robert Hall, both being from Norfolk. Robert
would have been in his late teens to early twenties when he moved from Norfolk and possibly came to stay with them or came with them initially.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

As per 1881 census, Esther is from Market Weighton

1871
RG10/4760 41 9
Market Weighton, Yorkshire
Blythe Ward

Esther Hall, head, unm, 40, Charwoman, b. Market Weighton
Tom, son, 15, b. do.
Fred, son, 6, b. do.
Margaret, dau, 3, b. do.

I guess the 'unm' is a mistake  ???

I can't ID him on other census, Cat :P

Had a look for Robert and the best match I see on earlier census is a Robert Hall born Reepham ca. 1850. What was Robert's father's name?

Hi
I have details of Robert Hall born Hackford 1847 to Thomas Hall and Dorothy Mary Ann Juby, they continued to live in Hackford/Reepham area until Thomas died sometime between 1851 census and 1863, (when Robert married 1868 his name is given and (deceased) noted).
DMA remarried in Reepham to John English 1863.
Thomas Hall jnr, his father was also Thomas Hall, stuck on these two as for births/baptisms, but could be Thomas Hall snr, married Martha Box, Cawston area not far from Reepham.
Any help with these latter two would be most welcome.
Thanks
Wendy

Hi Bendywendy,

The 1881 census is free to search at several sites, among which www.familysearch.org

Here's the household:
