"John WOOLFORD born Wiltshire married Alice Emily Harding born Queenscliffe
1896  reg no 2965"

That's good Jenn,

Jack and John are such interchangeable given names.
It looks like your John [above] although indexed as Jack by the findings of Abiam's 'helper', was really John and, co-incidentally, Alice as wife...... over a couple of generations.

Hi Jenn,

Yes it's on the first post.  (A long way back now!)  George Harding married Sarah Ann Hyde at Cookham Berkshire June 1/4 1854.

Maybe we should hang on a bit as I'm getting more doubtful that this is the right family.  It now seems that Georges mother is wrong and now you have found Emma as his wife not Sarah!  So it's not looking too good.  Still waiting to hear from the GR lady, maybe she knows something I don't,
Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know if anything transpires,
from a disappointed Abiam. :'(

But ;)... there are  children  born  to  the couple  in  Victoria.........are  you  doubting  that  the  marriage  of George to Sarah Hyde  is  not  the George Harding  you are looking for?

kind regards Jenn

Yes, I'm afraid so.  I have a George born 1832/3 ( can't check before 1837) in Cookham but his parents should be James Harding and Sarah Rixon.

The George in Australia has James Harding and Elizabeth Buckingham as his parents.  And, if it is the right George his wife was Sarah Ann not Emma.  And the children are wrong.  Always assuming that we have the right ship.

I feel less and less that they are mine,
As I said disappointing but I do thank you all for your help,
Regards,
Abiam

Hello

Have you seen this IGI entry for James Harding?
Although it is a submitted entry all the names and dates tally up with what
has been mentioned here.

James Harding married Sarah Rixon 18/2/1822 Clewer,Berkshire

George Harding christened 30/12/1832 Cookham,Berkshire
died 15/9/1890  (There is an ancestry entry for a burial for George Harding at Queenscliff Cemetery 17/9/1890)
married Sarah Ann Hyde 16/5/1854 Cookham,Berkshire
died 10/10/1908

It could be possible that James remarried.  Looking at the census
- if I've got the right James Harding  ::)
in 1841 - no wife listed
in 1851 wife is Mary
in 1861 wife is Ann
maybe he married again and the next wife was Elizabeth  ;D

Hi Raylen

Wonder if Abiam could get someone to do a lookup of George's baptism in 1832 and find the correct mother.

Cheers
Cando

Cando,
I have put a request on the Berkshire Board for a look up for George.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=309394.new

Raylen,
That is the right James Harding - he was married three times:

Sarah Rixon born 1797 Hurley married 1822 died 1836 (8 children all with James)
Mary Smith W born circa 1801 married 1846 died 1851 (2 of her own children)
Ann Sinclair W born circa 1800 married 1856 died 1879 ( Child but not with her)

As he married Sarah in 1822 I don't think he was married before this.  He had 8 children in 1821,23,24,26,28,3032and 36.  Sarah died about 9 months after the last baby.

I agree we need his baptism to sort this but being in Spain I can't do it myself,
Thanks again everyone,
Abiam
