Glapthorn baptism lookup: PALMER
« on: Monday 09 June 08 21:03 BST (UK) »
Would someone be able to look up a baptism at Glapthorn please?  I'm going through a tree that a distant relation of my wife's produced in the mid 1990s, and it includes a baptism of Joseph Palmer on 8 Aug 1826, son of Thomas & Elizabeth - but there is no corresponding entry on FreeREG (which purports to cover Glapthorn for that period) nor on the IGI, which does include all his claimed siblings.  Can someone double check if there really was such a baptism please?
Many thanks
Richard.

Hi Richard

I seem to remember this from earlier somewhere here.

Sorry can not help with Baptism confirmation.

The 1841 shows his family as listed without him present.

Thomas PALMER 40 Farmer & Beerseller Y
Eliz 45 Y
Charlotte 18 Y
Mary 13 Y
Emma 10 Y
Thomas 8 Y
Caroline 5 Y

Maybe Joseph was in another County as I can not see him in Northants.

He does not appear on the Northants Marriage Index for a C of E marriage.

Any other clues.

Sandy

Hi Sandy

I've now got Joseph's marriage certificate from 1856 at St Leonard's Glapthorn (to Elizabeth Marriott), which confirms his father as Thomas Palmer, Publican.  In the 1841 census, I've found a 15 year old Joseph Palmer serving as an apprentice in neighbouring Oundle - in fact on New Street, Oundle, which I think is the road which leads out of Oundle towards Glapthorn.  It all seems to fit with the research done in the mid-1990s except that I can't find the 1826 baptism yet.

Thanks for your help
Regards
Richard.
