Hi everyone,

Thank you for the replies. I don`t think the Elizabeth from Middlesex was my relative as she is listed on the 1901 census as being a housemaid. On her marriage cert she has no occupation listed so i don`t think it could be her as surely she would have continued with some domestic work when she moved to Romsey.

Also her father was listed as being a plumber, would he have changed profession,it seems strange to think of him being a house painter but then changing  to be a plumber. Still it may turn out that this is she, the only reason i can think of it not being her is that my grandmother when she was alive only mentioned that her family was from Romsey and made no mention of Middlesex. Still she also put on my great grandmothers death certificate that her  grandfather was called Charles whilst on the marriage certificate he is listed as Henry.

Thanks again for all the assistance

I don`t think the Elizabeth from Middlesex

Bear in mind that in the 1880s anywhere in north west London was regarded as Middlesex, so if they lived in Marylebone, then that would have been regarded as Middlesex rather than London.

Most marriage certs of that time, (and for a long time) had no occupation for the woman.  If they did work after marriage, a lot of it would be in the home and not recorded.

Occupations could change over the years, and people had to do any job they could get, to survive and keep the family.

Elizabeth had a brother Charles.

Maybe she got slightly mixed up.

Her father died in 1889.  March 1889 Bethnal Green 1c/159  Henry Nethaway aged 40.

Marriage of her parents

Dec 1866 Marylebone 1a/902 Henry Nethaway to Emily Cripps.

Elizabeth's father is Henry, as per her marriage certificate.

Her mother Emily may have married again (I cannot find a marriage just yet) or be living as wife to someone called Charles after first husband Henry died, which on her death cert would make him her husband.
