Job Halliwell
« on: Monday 16 June 08 11:00 BST (UK) »
Could somebody please help me locate a Job Halliwell.
He was listed as an inmate in Carnarvonshire And Anglesey Infirmary, Bangor in the 1861 census.

HOLLIWELL, Job   Inmate   Married   M   31   1830    Butler  born Allington Derbyshire.

Any reference to a marriage 1851 census or birth record would be greatly appreciated.

He was listed as a butler on my g-grandfathers 2nd marriage certificate and a groom on his first...
He was deceased on my g-grandfathers  first marriage certificate in 1886.

I have just found out after 5 years of research that i may have chosen a wrong g-g-grandfather !!!!
Therefore I may need to revise my tree...

Kindest Regards

Possibly Job was born in Denbighshire -not Derbys

1861 looks like his p.o.b. is written as Allington Denbyshire -incorrect spelling for Denbighshire -there is an Allington Derbys and Allington Denbighs

Who, when & where were these marriage(s).

What census ( provide with refs) does his married family appear on?
That alone will help date & place any marriage for him.

There is in 1851
Job Holliwell 21 U House servant b Gresford Denbighshire
living in Lanferris Denbighshire

HO107 2504 100 14

as Pauline has stated, we really need more information to try and locate him -especially as there are variations on the way halliwell/holliwell is spellt

Like I previously said this is all of a sudden a new twist.
I only have the Following:

William Halliwell Marriage Certificate 1886 in crewe stating Job Halliwell as Father. Occupation = Groom (deceased)
William Halliwell Marriage Certificate 1896 in crewe stating Job Halliwell as Father. Occupation = Butler (deceased).

I have access to 1861 census and there is a Job Holliwell listed as an inmate and his occupation is Butler.

Person: HOLLIWELL, Job
Address: Carnarvonshire And Anglesey Infirmary, Bangor

HOLLIWELL, Job   Inmate   Married   M   31   1830    Butler  born Allington Derbyshire

I Have found on FreeBMD a notice of Death for Sep 1861 for : HALLAWELL    Job        Bangor    11b   319
So he probably died in the infirmary.
I have no access to the 1851 census, that is why I asked for help.

The place of birth looks like Allington Denbyshire:

On William C Helliwell 1891 census return his place of birth is listed as Denbighshire N Wales

So you appear to have been given the correct 1851 Job.

Now look for the marriage cert to get a father's name for him.

Problem is there are 3 possible marriages from 1851 to 1861: on freebmd:
Marriages Sep 1852   (>99%)

Halliwell    Job        Ashton under Lyne    8d   728
Marriages Dec 1856   (>99%)
Hallawell    Job        Eastry    2a   1194
Marriages Dec 1861   (>99%)
Helliwell    Job        Halifax    9a   645

I can not find any suitable births for William Halliwell in 1861-1862

Births Jun 1861   (>99%)
HALLIWELL    William        Oldham    8d   601
HALLIWELL    William        Wigan    8c   73
HALLIWELL    William Booth        Saddleworth    9a   232
HALLIWELL    William Henry        Islington    1b   247
Helliwell    William        Rochdale    8e   55
Helliwell    William        Halifax    9a   457
Helliwell    William        Todmorden    9a   204
Births Sep 1861   (>99%)
HALLIWELL    William        Todmorden    9a   215
HELLIWELI    William        Halifax    9a   467
HOLEWELL    William        Blaby    7a   48
Births Dec 1861   (>99%)
HALLIWELL    William Henry        Blackburn    8e   299
Births Mar 1862   (>99%)
HALLIWELL    William        Bolton    8c   377
HELLIWELL    William        Burnley    8e   181
HELLIWELL    William        Todmorden    9a   194
HOLLIWELL    William Joseph        Manchester    8d   24[9_]
HOLWELL    William        Barnstaple    5b   515

None appear to be born in wales.

He is listed as William Charles halliwell on both marriage certificates and that is Why I originally thought he was born in Mar qtr in wigan.
and that William Charles Halliwell's father was Joseph (thats why I thought Job was Joseph).
But there are a few things that don't add up, plus somebody else is claiming William Charles halliwell to their family tree.
Originally I dismissed it but the more i recheck data the more suspicious i get.
It is very difficult sometimes as people lie about ages, place of birth and change their occupation; but I can't help feeling that my William Charles Halliwell was not the one born in Wigan as his father was always listed as a stonemason in all census returns until his death.

So why can't you elimante some of those marriages by looking at the brides?

We're not psychic; when & where does 1891 William C appear in previous census... Does he have a named mother?

How can I eliminate the brides when I don't know the brides name?
No sign of him on previous census.
I will (after a good nights sleep) look through every possibility from census returns 1871 & 1881.
