Show and Tell treasure for restore and date please.
« on: Friday 20 June 08 09:07 BST (UK) »
Alice and Thomas Robinson both born 1863, had a relative who went to Nova Scotia as a fur trapper.  He used to send furs back to Wales for his family.

Is it likely that this coat could have made from such furs, or would it have been hired for the photo? They were a coal heaving family so money would have not run to buying lavish furs. Can any body tell what animal this fur was from? I know the relative returned home  to Wales in the 1940's.

Can anyone have a stab at the date?, and a little restore would be fabulous!

Kindest regards and thanks for taking a look

Chrissi

Hello Chrissi,

If it is fur , it has a very short nap and has a bit of a sheen to it , beaver or seal skin maybe ?

Hello Chrissi,

No doubt , I shall add confusion to the dating  :o

Is that a tarmac road they are standing on ? (invented 1902) .

Is there any info , on the back of the photo , to help the daters ?

For the date we need China. It looks like Beaver fur and the date around early1900's. (No expert)

Here's a quick restore - hope it's ok

The backdrop they were photographed against had seen better day.

I've cleaned it up a bit and added some colour.

It highlights that she had birds on her hat.
