Hello folks 

Looking for help to find some information on Elizabeth Vercoe.

Details I have for her are:

Born Cornwall,England
married Maurice Talmage 10/6/1882 London,England
Arrived in Australia September 1884 with husband.  Her age given as 26 = born c1858
Birth certificate of daughter in 1887 shows age as 28 = born c1859. Born in Truro,Cornwall.
Lists her maiden name as Bercoe ( in error I think - but never rule anything out I guess  )
She died in Melbourne,Australia 1933 age 76 years = born c1857
Death lists Father as Thomas and Mother is unknown.

Electoral rolls from 1914 as well as her death, she is named as Elizabeth Benetta Talmage and I wonder
the relevance of the middle name Benetta 

Can anyone help me to find her with her family on any census or find her birth please

Listed as a scholar in the 'Home for Female Servants' - apparently a Girls Training school


There are 13 girls here of her sort of age, most of them more local; the Matron is a Lucy Martyn.


I'll have another look in the 1861.

Pretty sure this is her - the handwritten page is deffo Vercoe and Truro

If so, she certainly got around - and the Exeter school achived good placements !

Thank you so much for that information.
It seems to be her on both the census you listed.
Still no sign of her in 1861 with her family 
but I'm sure she will turn up with surname spelt in
some strange way.

2 marriages for Thomas on the Cornwall opc search - one 7/10/1862, and the other as a widower 20/6/1869 to widow Caroline Martin. In 1871 he's with Caroline and stepson William Oliver RG10/2280 folio 61 pg 14

Both Eliza Jane and Harriet were baptised as Bonotto 13/2/1862 in Truro, St Clements daughters of Amelia - on opc database, but not on IGI. No sign of a baptism for Elizabeth as yet.
