Locations in Lincolnshire
« on: Saturday 22 January 05 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Have discovered a strand of my family tree from Orby and Grainthorpe, Lincolnshire and I have to admit I know nothing about this county.  Can someone point me to a website with location information and maps for Lincolnshire so that I can improve my ignorance  :)

Thank you

Hi Kerry

I have the same problem - I don't know my Spilsby's from my Sotby's!

I've found the maps on this site very useful
http://www.lincolnshire-wolds.org/
(click on 'Maps' on the left, then the 1880 Lincolnshire map).  For ease of viewing you may wish to save it to your hard drive.

Thanks Paul

That's a good one, now I can study my Orby's, Irby's, Spilby's, Ulceby's and Goulceby's to my heart's content!   ;D

Hi Janet

Yes I found their website recently and it was interesting.  Having recently found quite a large family in Lincolnshire of which I descend from I think I need to visit this summer and check out some of these places.  I know nothing about Lincolnshire and it sounds an interesting place.  I'd like to visit some of the churchyards and hunt some graves out.  Now that either sounds rather odd or slightly sad!!!!

hi again.
yes it is. It is almost a lost county. everyone thinks of Lincolnshire as flat and uninteresting. However it is steeped in history. I came to live in Lincoln because of my late husbands job or so I thought, until I stared reseaching my family and I have found many Lincolnshire ties.
As I said I live close to the city so if I can be of any help let me know. janet
