Berkshire Burial Index - Shrivenham - John DAY post 1813
« on: Monday 23 June 08 17:47 BST (UK) »
Could sks who has the Berkshire Burial Index possibly take a look for the burial of a John DAY born 1764 (there are too many John Day's in Berkshire on familyhistoryonline.net).  It isn't before 1813 unless I missed it going through the original registers but don't have access at present to the post-1813 entries.  His wife Elizabeth was buried there in 1804 and there is no sign of a remarriage in the area so he may well have died there too.

In case they include a profession (which I have seen very rarely on post-1813) he was a harness and collar marker.

Any help appreciated. :)

Thanks

Nicola

I only have the 4th edition of the Berks Burial Index - there's been 2 more editions but I don't think they've added to the Shrivenham coverage - 1813 to 1867.

There are no entries for John Day in Shrivenham.

The nearest I can see are both about 30 miles from Shrivenham:

1. buried 9 Feb 1837 Reading St Laurence age 70
abode is given as St Mary, Bedford Street

2. died May 2 buried May 4 1838 Swallowfield age 67
abode is Farley Hill.

Of course, he could have wandered off just about anywhere!!  ::)

Hi Jill

Thanks for looking.  It is quite possible that he died in Oxfordshire since his daughter Sarah Sansom Day married in Somerton in 1814.  I just wondered whether he may have stayed in Shrivenham, but it is now looking more likely that she may have moved into Oxon with the family.  Oh well, probably needle in a haystack time again looking for him.
