Michael AHERN b1873 Carrigaline
« on: Tuesday 24 June 08 00:58 BST (UK) »
Hello rootschatters!

Looking for Ahern ancestors in the Carrigaline area of county Cork.

According to his army papers, my g-grandfather Michael Ahern was born in Carrigaline in 1873.
He joined the Cork Royal Garrison Artillery at Fort Westmorland in June of 1891, (aged 18 years & 2 months) serving in the Boer war, before finally settling in London.
His marriage certificate shows his father as Thomas Ahern, a baker by trade, of Carrigaline.
After many years of looking, I still cannot find his birth registration or any details of his parents, especially his mother's name, or of any siblings.

I have visited Carrigaline 4 times, searching out all the local churches graveyards/local historians etc, but to no avail. I seem to hit a brick wall each time. I even asked Bertie Ahern for help and although I received some assistance, the roads led nowhere!

I would be most grateful for any assistance in locating any records of my elusive ancestor.

Thank you in anticipation of lots of replies.
Michael Ahern b1873 Carrigaline served in Cork RGA at Fort Westmorland, then Boer War, received QSA medal, settled in West Ham & Woolwich London.

You could apply to the GRO

Did you find any Thomas Ahern in the 1901 & 1911 Census?

This is the only one I could find for the 1901 Census could not find any Thomas Ahern as a Baker
