Canadian Soldiers of WW1
« on: Thursday 26 June 08 23:15 BST (UK) »
Gwilym Francis Evans c1884 in Liverpool, emigrated to Canada about 1910. I think he may have been a Canadian Soldier of WW1, 1914-1918.
Is there any site where I may find his record pls?
Many thanks

On the other side of the family, Edward Payne Bristowe c1892 also Liverpool, possibly served in the Canadian Forces as well.
Many thx

Hi Davecigar

You can look at the Canadian Soldier WW1 database yourself for free - here:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/index-e.html

There's actually 2 x Gwilym EVANS listed

Thanks Ady.
Whilst I've retrieved the basic details from collectionscanada site, is there anywhere else that I can find more comprehensive details, such as enrolment papers, service history, medals etc.

I think you have to go through Canadian Archives?? not sure though ive only done Kiwi and Oz soldiers...The CEF site should be able to tell you.
At least you will know his regiment and number.
Or someone with world Ancestry membership which i havent :(

Just had quick look...if you click on the "view record" bit to the top right of the attestation form front page it takes you to a FAQ page that answers them and tells you how to get a copy of his SR.

Hi Dave,

Here is a link on how to order a soldier's complete military file from Archives Canada.

They can be a wealth of information.
