Has anyone any idea where a burial would take place if death occurred at Leigh on sea in 1934 in the Cheltenham Drive area.
Connected names to this person, Garner and Short

Thank you in anticipation

Just a thought re burial places in Leigh on Sea. There is a large cemetery on the A13 on the way to Southend next door to a small parade of shops within the area of Olivia Drive and not far from Cheltenham Drive, does anyone know what it is called please, I have looked at the ERO but can't see anything that rings any bells with me. it may well be St Clements but Frances has kindly checked that for me will nil results.

Thank you in anticipation

Oh thanks Clincher, a telephone call to them tomorrow morning where I hope they will help me

I pass this cemetery often but never knew what it was called.

Years ago my aunt had a pet shop right next door, the story my cousin told was the pet monkey got out and he had to chase it over the cemetery till he caught it, well that was the story I was told directly so I can only assume it is true. Thank goodness sometimes I have a reasonably memory for the past
and can look back and have a giggle

Thank you one again

regards

To everyone who has helped me find out about the Leigh burial ground.
I have been in contact with Southend Corps this morning, my man is not buried in any of the Southend Cemeteries, I have a feeling that he may have been buried out of the area now, I need to find out when and where his wife died, he  living to be 85,  his wife quite possibly might have died much younger,in 1901 he was in the Ilford area so I need to look in that direction, BUT in between times I am going to look at the local paper for Southend, I am sure there will be an obituary, another trip out on a nice day hopefully

Thanks everyone

Hi Louisa

Have you thought about contacting local Funeral directors? Or finding the nearest one situated to Cheltenham Drive? It is possible that they still have archived records, a long shot i know but you just never know with this research lark

H Kath
I have contacted 3 funeral directors on the A13, 2 didn't know where the records were kept and 1 other was going to ring me back, I don't hold out much hope to be honest but today, oh joy of joys I think I have found his wife, I had found an entry in Free BMD's but the reg area was West Ham, she should not have been in West Ham as they lived in Ilford, she might have died in a hospital there, BUT the burial I found for a wife, same age and name buried in Great Ilford St Mary, these records are not at the ERO, (boo hoo !! ) I have yet to find where they are and if I can get there ,  they might still be with the incumbent

William George Garner died 1934 and Caroline Elizabeth his wife in 1923, also found buried in the same place Edgar Ernest, I don't know who he belonged to only 16 days old

Will let you know the outcome, it is frustrating this lark

HI LM

don't know if this will help but i know Valence House in Dagenham holds some records that the ERO does not like the electoral rolls for Barking & Dagenham areas

Ilford is only a stones throw from Barking so maybe you could give them a ring see if they could help you

I do know that Valence house is colsed until 2010 for a refurb or something, but they may have sent their records to a local library

or you could try the East of London Family History Society
