Darn....dropped the mouse and my whole message went away !!!

Unfortunately for us all,  there is no central registry for births, deaths, marriages in the US.  It is a state by state thing.  When each state (or territory) began keeping records, the privacy laws and record keeping access varies for each state.  In any best case you will only find limited availability either for a limited period of time or for a specific locale so it is always hit or miss.  Sometimes you get lucky but mostly not so much!!

If it is the sons you are interested in, this will be difficult.  Kansas has very little.  I have Kansas roots and I have found some things on line for Johnson Co. and for Jackson Co., MO (which is Kansas City, MO) but by no means all.
AND, we won't be able to see them married in the census to even get a clue of who the wife might be!

An obituary for Dudley would be a good source for more details.

thanks lissa....this is my 1st time asking a query about USA.....i can't believe the wealth of info i have been given today.....it has certainly filled in alot of gaps for me....i will,in due course, try to find out more on ducie & beric.....dudley was my ggrandfathers nephew, which more than likely he knew nothing about...in fact i knew nothing of them until i started family tree searching!
can you advise best place to look for obit for dudley please.
sussed out dudley staying with "uncle" on arrival in states from canada....it must have been his wifes mothers brother..
 :) :)

Here's the Barber Co., Genealogy site

http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/barber/

I use the Skyways Johnson Co. one all the time with good success....especially helpful when your people were long time residents of these rural counties.

From the SSDI  (Social Security Death Index)  it seems he may have died in Kansas.   Though, , it's not absolutely specific that that is where he was receiving his social security benefits.....but "Last Residence" Kansas is a good clue...BUT he could have been in a place other than Barber Co.

I haven't read through all of Janice's various postings to see if there is another likely location ??

Good job finding the "uncle" in Chipmunk, NY (Love that name!) ...and he didn't overstay his welcome !! as they were a family in Kansas by April, 1920.
