WWI Servicemens Records

Since the WWI Servicemens records came online on Ancestry, I have been searching for various ancestors.

I have noticed however that next to some names they have alternative names logged against them. Yet when you hold your mouse over them the new name, in a lot of cases, bears no resemblence to the name shown by Ancestry.

Anyone got any idea why? Surely there can't be that many with the wrong name when enlisted.

If another name is in square brackets it is usually a correction supplied by a subscriber to correct Ancestry's initial indexing.

That's what I thought but surely so many can't be wrong? Unless a subscriber is putting down a family connection?
