William Parton of Radnorshire
« on: Friday 04 July 08 03:51 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my gggrandfather, William Parton of Radnorshire.  He married Mary (nee Harding) some time around 1860 and they had their first son, John born on Jan. 21, 1862 in Clun, Radnorshire, Salop.  I don't know if this is in England or Wales.

the marriage is a bit earlier than that
Mary Harding march qtr 1853 Knighton vol 11b pg 263 with William Parten on the same page
so I would expect there to be some more children in that time.

John gives his place of birth as Clun in 1901 (on your other post) but I can't see him with his parents in 1871. There are 3 Parton boys all born Clun in the Bishops Castle, Clun workhouse on the 1871 census RG10/2731 folio 33 pg 18 George age 12, William 10 and John 8 who I suspect are brothers.

And there is this possible family in 1861
Rock hill, Treverward, Shropshire RG9/1840 folio 55 pg 1
William Pardon head mar 35 ag lab b. Radnorshire, Norton
Mary wife 36 b. Radnorshire, Beguildy
Mary Ann dau 4 b. Radnorshire, Norton
George son 2 b. Salop, Clun
William son 1 b. Salop, Clun
Jane Davies servant(?) 28 b. Beguildy
Timothy Thomas Davies 1 month b. Salop, Clun

Can't spot the parents after this. The brothers appear to be in the workhouse in 1871 and sister Mary is lodging in Shrewsbury & working in a factory RG10/2771 folio 43 pg 2.

I'll have a further hunt.

Welcome Fiona!

I hope that you will visit us often and make lots of progress with your research.  Please be sure to register your surnames on our SURNAME INTERESTS TABLE.

http://surname.rootschat.com/

Clun is a parish in Shropshire (Salop is an abbreviation of this) which is in England.  Radnorshire is a County in Wales.  As William PARTON was from Radnorshire, I am going to move this post over the Radnorshire board for you.

Kind Regards
Rick :)

in 1851, there's a Mary Harding that fits as a visitor in a household in Pennant
HO107/2493 folio 200 pg 1.
Mary Harding 26 visitor dressmaker b. Beguildy
Mary Harding 19 house servant b. Beguildy
visiting a cousin perhaps?

I checked the baptisms on the IGI for Beguildy batch C057601 and there are 2 different entries for a Mary. The older one who I hope is yours was baptised 1/4/1825 daughter of John & Martha.

To the same parents in the same batch
Elizabeth bp 28/4/1822
Margaret bp 15/9/1827
John bp 27/2/1831
Jane bp 11/9/1834

This family in 1841 would seem to match
Shellheath, Creigbyther Township, Llanfihangel Beguildy, Radnorshire HO107/5455/3 folio 18 pg 7
John Harding 45 mason
Martha 40
Margaret 13
John 11
Jane 6
Susanna 11 months
all born in county

also on the IGI, marriage of John Harding to Martha Lewis 16/5/1821 in Beguildy

The marriage cert from 1853 would confirm her father.

I'm not having much luck with William Parton. Possibility in 1851 in Evenjobb HO107/2492 folio 212 pg 4 as a waggonner. But there's an interesting family in Norton in 1841 HO107/1457/3 folio 4 pg 1
Henry Parton 35 ag lab
Ann 35
John 13
Henry 11
James 8
Edward 5
Mary 2
all born in county
Can't see any other Parton families around Norton, so they may be worth keeping in mind.
