I was about to say not that I know of. But if you search for “scottish engineers” on the National Archive site - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp?j=1 - using series code “WO” ie War Office,  you get a unit dating from the 1970s.

Thanks for that Km1971
The person i am researching said on his marriage cert in 1917 that he was 21 and a Private in the Scottish Engineers. He was actaually 16 - i know people did lie about their age to join up but i was doubtful and haven't been able to find anything about the Scottish Engineers.
Back to drawing board!

Can you post his details....Its possible he was a Royal Engineer with a Scottish Division.
If we get a name we can check against Medal Index Cards and Service/Pension Records.

Hi mm45
His name was George Walter Roche born 1900 though he was pretending to be 21 in 1917. His father was also George Walter Roche and was definitely in the Motor Transport Corps in WW1
Any help much appreciated, thanks

Hi Diggit
Have found only one George Roche in the Royal Engineers Medal Cards
He was 89125 and was possibly decorated for bravery.....I checked on Soldiers Died In Gt War database for soldiers with similar numbers and 89126 came up he was West Calder Edinburgh Enlisted Denbeath Fife so its a possibility...The George Roche above went to war On 7/7/15
Theres a George Roche Army Service Corps DM2/224462 which could have been his dad.
If you have any medals the numbers will be on the rims.

Service Record Rs not online yet to check
if you can check the London Gazette dated 3/6/19 Peace gazette it may have his citation

Hope this helps

Ady

Hi Ady
Thanks for the info, not sure if the GWR who enlisted in 1915 is our man as he would have just turned 15. The cadet was my Grandfather to the best of my knowledge.

Cheers

He may never have gone overseas therefore no medal card unless you know he did?
The gazette should give place of residence but its a pig to search ill post the MIC.

thank you very much for that,i don't have a lot of information, i will have a go at the gazette .

Can i ask you if you have tried the wwi service records search for anyone? i have tried searching for another relative but although i have put in his regiment and number it has come up with zero
I thought as his name began with A i would have no trouble. i wonder if i am doing something wrong - computers and i don't get along! his name by the way was Henry Charles Anstice, South Wales Borderers 23387
