Barrow Cumberworth/ Hepworth Help
« on: Sunday 06 July 08 10:28 BST (UK) »
Can you help me ? my GG grandfather is a Joseph Barrow born 1837 in Cumberworth/ Hepworth to a George Barrow The only George I can find on the IGI was born in 1808 I know from census info. that Joseph's mother was Jane . I have also found a George married a Jane Beaumont in 1835 so that all fits. George's baptism only records his mother as Martha. Census info. shows Joseph living with grandparents Stephen and Mary (nee Barrow) Robinson . Does anyone know how this fits ? Thanks Wendy.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi, Many thanks for your message.

In the 1851 and 1861 census's  Georges 's son Joseph has Mary and Stephen as his grandparents .  So this might fit.   Stephen was born 8 Jan 1790 in Kirkburton.  Mary and Stephen  married as you said in 1823  and their first child Martha ( that name again) was born in 1824.  So did Martha have George before she married Stephen .  Do you think Stephen could be George's father?

You mentioned you had found a baptism in the wesleyan church in1785 /6  have you any more info. on this eg.  date or father's name?
Another link  is that both Joseph and Stephen were blacksmiths   but George is listed as a clothier.
Do you have any other info.  or ideas   Thanks Wendy.
