William and George Hood
« on: Tuesday 08 July 08 17:07 BST (UK) »
Hi, Looking for the baptisms of William and George Hood. I have listed below known facts and wonder if anyone can put a new slant on this for me.

William born c 1833 and George c1834. Parents were Samuel Hood and Elizabeth Ryley. On census returns 1841 they appear with parents in Derby. 1851/61 they appear separatlely but both born in Bolton.

1831. Henry, first son baptised 30.5.1831 Manchester Cathederal
1833 William-Bolton?
1834 George-Bolton?
1837. Harrison forth son baptised 2.7.1837-parish bolton le moors-died 4.2.1839 Bolton.
1839 Mary Eliza born13.8.1839 Bolton baptised Bolton Le Moors.

William and George do not appear on the IGI and wondered if there are missing records or I have just missed something.

Thanks

John

Hi

The IGI is not a complete record  - have you tried Lancashire OPC's?

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk  they have some bolton le moors registers on there

Rosie,

Just spent last while looking at the site but there appears to be lots of baptism dates missing around the time I am looking for. May have to pay a visit.

HI John

I think that a visit to Bolton or Manchester Central Library is probably called for.

I only found my 3xGGrandmother Caroline Hood on the Bolton baptisms in 1820 by looking at the microfilms in Manchester.

Does your Samuel trace back to Cheshire / Macclesfield area before Bolton?

Caroline was the daughter of Jonathan Hood & Elizabeth Scotson & she & her sibs were born in Bolton but mostly came to Manchester before 1841.  The men were in tailoring or silk weaving.

Good luck with your search

Both Bolton and Manchester have very good archives with good staff and free access to some of the geneology sites
