Drouin lookup - Chisholm-McKinnon
« on: Wednesday 09 July 08 03:19 BST (UK) »
I understand that the Drouin file might have some non-Catholic registrations.  The Rev John Chisholm married Elizabeth Mc/MacKinnon of Ontario and had several kids b. Ontario as follows from 1911 census:

1901 Kemptville Village, Leeds & Grenville, Ontario
34 78 Chisholm John M Head M Apr 8 1852 48  Clergyman
35 78 Chisholm Elizabeth C. F Wife M Apr 1 1857 43 b Ontario
36 78 Chisholm Hugh A. M Son S Oct 25 1889 11 b BC
37 78 Chisholm Florance E. F Daughter S Nov 25 1892 9  she & others b.  Ontario
38 78 Chisholm Zelda D. F Daughter S Aug 20 1894 7
39 78 Chisholm Walter J. M Son S Nov 25 1897 4 <<----???
40 78 Chisholm Donald N. M Son S Nov 24 1900 4/12

Does the marriage and/or births show up?

John was from Scotia and was in British Columbia from 1884-1889, and later in Montreal.

I will go check to see if he and Eliz married in BC.
edit- just found john and Eliz m Victoria 1885.  will now check eldest's birth.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick...a quick look at Drouin (which does record all, or almost all, parish records in Quebec regardless of religion, and even some from outside the province) does not show the marriage or births.

But have you seen the Lovell's directory...you might find them here:

http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/index.html

Did you mean that John was from Nova Scotia? They have a lot of resources online.

Cheers,

Thanks China.  I recalled it was mainly Quebec after I posted.  I presume that John & his wife died in Montreal sometime after 1926 since that is where he was living when he went back to NS to be informant at his sister's death.

John was clergyman for the Port of Montreal in the teens and twenties and shows up (not in a great light) in some books relating to immigrants, e.g. " Chisholm accused her of fraud with respect to her employer, and sexual immorality with respect to her potential husband, and, using
the threat of deportation, he forced her to give up her relationship and take up domestic work."

I have a pretty good handle on John in NS and BC and will now go check Lovells.

Lovell's is great!  Thanks for that - wish more directory publishers did this for all large cities.  Found out  a good deal more about this family.

I blew it in my first message by putting in the 1901 Ontario census instead of 1911 Montreal... here it is:

1911 Quebec census for John & family: 937 Wellington, St. Gabriel, Montreal.
40 8 Chisholm John M Head M Apr 1852 59  Clergyman (all Presbyterian)
41 8 Chisholm Elizabeth F Wife M Apr 1849 52  Journalist Newspaper
42 8 Chisholm Hugh Alexander M Son S Oct 1889 21
43 8 Chisholm Walter John M Son S Oct 1896 14  <--- is this John killed 1916 in Flanders? yes
44 8 Chisholm Donald Munroe M Son S Oct 1900 10
45 8 Chisholm Florence F Daughter S Nov 1892 19 Stenographer
46 8 Chisholm Zelda F Daughter S Aug 1894 17

If you go to this site, looks like Elizabeth died April 22, 1952
