Usher/Widdowfield/Lilley
« on: Wednesday 09 July 08 18:15 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am tracing my dad's family  and he originally came from Middlesbrough.  His father was Thomas Lilley who was married to Phillis Widdowfield (the daugher of James and Mary (Usher) Widdowfield.
I have managed to trace quite a lot of the Widdowfield family  history, they appear to originate from Newcastle, Co Durham and around that area.  I don't know as much about the Ushers.  My grandfather had an elder brother William ( born 1866) and three sisters.  Two of the sisters never married but I have been unable to trace anything for Ellen.
Any help you can give would be welcome.
Nica

Hi Nica

Can you tell us when and where Ellen was born?

Have you checked if she married?

Hi - have I got this right as you say you are tracing the Ushers but that's not how your message reads

Your paternal grandfather was Thomas Lilley

He married Phillis Widdowfield

Phillis was the daughter of James Widdowfield and Mary Usher

Your grandfathers surname was Lilley so are you looking for his sister Ellen Lilley b 1872 Middlesborough?

If so -  she was still with her father in 1901 at 11 Cross St (1881 census) plus sister Emily - no Martha

Is this Martha's marriage? If so - if 2 sisters remained unmarried - perhaps it was Ellen & Emily

Might be her, Carole but there were a lot of Lilleys in Leeds before we ever moved down here.  I might have got it wrong about which sister was the one that married, I got the info re the unmarried ones from my sister, she could have got it wrong!!
Yes, I am looking at the Ushers but at the minute I am trying to find out as much as I can about my grandfather 's(Thomas Lilley) family.  Usher is the maiden name of my grandmother Phillis.  I will look at them when I have got a bit further with the Lilleys.
Thank you
