There is no 1890 census for the US, to speak of. It was almost completely destroyed in a fire. I did find a Joseph and Rachel Read in the 1900 census in Salt Lake City.
Joseph Read, b May 1850 in Eng, 50, married 19 years, dairyman, rents his home, emigrated 1881
Rachel, wife, b. May 1859 in england, 41, married 19 years, had 8 children, 4 living, emigrated 1881
Emily G, daughter, b. May 1882 in Utah, 18, candy maker
Lillian E.B., daughter, b. June 1884 in Utah, 15, at school
Mary L, b. March 1888 in Utah, 12, at school
Geraldine H, b. May 1890 in Utah, 10, at school
In 1910, still in Salt Lake City. Joseph is indicated as having his "own income" for occupation. Rachel had 8 children, 4 living. The girls are listed as Gertrude, 27, May Lillian 26, Mary L 24, and Hermia 20. May Lillian is a clerk at a drug company and Mary L is a bookkeeper for Hide Co.
In 1920, she is widowed, in Salt Lake City, working as a sorter in a knitting works and apparently living alone. It says she owns her home, with a mortage. But next door i believe is her daughter Mary L. I can't be sure, as the age is about 3 years off, but it is a Mary LR Burt, 31, b. utah, parents born England. Husband is Orson Allen Burt, b. Utah, father Scotland, mother Utah, truck driver. Ah, here's the kicker. There are two children, Reed Allen, 2 years 3 months, and Mary, one month.
In 1930, she is again living alone, but next door is Mary L. Burt, 44, widowed. With her are Read A., 12, and Mark L, 7. Mary is an agent for ladies dresses.
let me look around a bit more and see what I can come up with for the other girls.
