ARKANSAS ADOPTIONS
« on: Thursday 10 July 08 22:42 BST (UK) »
Hi folks
Does anyone know if adoptions were a legal procedure in Arkansas ~ 1880.
The family story is that Edmund was "adopted" by his grandfather and that they had to travel to Little Rock from Arkadelphia for this to take place.
As it is beyond the 100 year mark, do you think any records, if there are any, may now be available for public view?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Arkansas has been a state for 172 years.  I suspect that they would have had early laws regarding adoption.   Suggest contacting the Arkansas Dept of Health Services that currently manage adoption procedures.
