James Sales

James Sales, born around 1811 Maidstone, and Elizabeth WatersHaylor, born in 1824 Goudhurst, had several children, one of them being John William Sales.  He married Edith Goulding and had a few children one being a son called John Fuller Sales.  I am trying to work out where the Fuller name comes from and thought it might be connected to his grandfather, James Sales who perhaps was a Fuller? 

I cannot find a birth for James Sales who apparently was born in the maidstone area.  The only thing I know is that he had a father called James.  (A dead end).

I have found a James Fuller born around 1791 in Maidstone but he was in the local jail.  On the census it said that he was married but no mention of who his wife was or any background to him.  Is there any way I can find this out. 

I cannot get to Kent to view the records so will have to write to someone.
