Hi,
I need help with an ancestor of mine - Alexander MacBain (McBean?) - who according to some histories I have read, immigrated to the U.S. (South Carolina) with his young bride around 1775. They shortened the surname in this country to Bean.
The legend is that the parents of the couple opposed the marriage, and so they were married privately and then immediately left the country. The confusion is over the wife's name which is reported variously as Christianna Matson, Massey or Cassey.
Their children were named: Alexander, James, Elizabeth, Jane Isabella, Levicy, Sarah, John Egbert Bell, and William.
If any record of this marriage exists, or if anyone has access to Aberdeenshire records with these family names, I would appreciate any information you can offer.
One online record I have seen gives Alexander's birth date as 19 Jan 1750, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Thanks in advance,
timp
