Hilton Prestwich brick wall

Hi

It was fellow rootschatter doddie that made me re-look at this brick wall problem with my Hilton line.

We all know that the IGI (familysearch) site has to be taken with a pinch of salt sometimes, but I just can't get my head round this - yet it is probably looking me right in the face or maybe not

I have a John Hilton born 1810 - whose parents I am trying to find.

All the census details have him as being born in Prestwich, Manchester

1841 - HO107/579; F9; P11 (living Blackley)
1851 - HO107/2232 Unfilmed report (living Prestwich)
1861 - RG9/2976; F86; P17 (Living Prestwich)

I have him as marrying Hannah Horobin in 1837 (details from IGI) 

Now one of the children was born in 1833 (Peter Hilton) 4 years before the so called marriage (have I got the right women?)

Right I know I have the right family in John - who he married is not important at the moment, so going back to the IGI I can only find one instance of a birth of a John Hilton 4th Feb 1810, but parents are down as James Tomason and Phebe Hilton.

I can't find a marriage for these two people, can't find them in any census, if John was born out of wedlock would the fathers name still be used?

John and Hannah did have other children - Thomas born 1837, James born 1843 and a couple of others but could they be a play on the fathers name?

I think I will have to visit library to check original image I think of his birth.

Have I missed something?

2.John Hilton b 13 June 1808 baptised 10 July 1808 son of Abraham Hilton and Nancy abode Whitefield

3. John Hilton b 29 Dec 1809 baptised 4 Feb 1810 son of James Tomason and Phebe Hilton abode Outwood

4.John Horsfield Hilton b 5 Sept 1812 baptised 1 Nov 1812 son of George Hilton and Mary abode Whitefield

All registered at St Mary the Virgin, Prestwich, Lancashire.

Wonder if the "abode: Outwood" might help......

Martha is on the IGI as an extracted christening, under surname TOMLINSON, as well as a submitted entry under HILTON or TOMLINSON

John is also in an extracted IGI entry under TOMASON, as well as the one under HILTON or TOMASON.

This is my gt gt gt gf, I am more than sure of that, as I can follow him through the census's
3. John Hilton b 29 Dec 1809 baptised 4 Feb 1810 son of James Tomason and Phebe Hilton abode Outwood

It all seems to point in the direction of the Outwood area "both Outwood & Whitefield border Prestwich"

And it seems like spelling errors for Tomason,Immison - but why did the children not get the fathers name?

Will have to check out the Outwood line futher.

Skip back a bit more and you get this - wonder if this is the correct name spelling and Phebe is Phebe Tomlinson?
