Unravelling a mystery- U.S. records needed COMPLETED
« on: Monday 14 July 08 16:54 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace family of Rev. John Edmonds to see why his daughter Mary Davidson died in Gorticloughan, Londonderry, Ireland. Her brother seems to have lived in Co. Mayo and then U.S. and it is his family I'm trying to follow through U.S. records.

John Edgar EDMONDS married Jane Catherine Lennon and had at least 2 children. Might have been married at least once more. Five known children.
1. Edgar John born 6 Sept.1873 Castlebar dist., Co. Mayo., m.23 Oct.1895 Manhattan, N.Y. Mary Julia Abel.
2. Landon William L. born 18 Jan.1875 Castlebar.
3. Henry W. born 1876.
4. Frances born 1882.
5. Austin Cooper born 1884 in U.S.?

Found some info on 2 of the sons-
Landon William L. Edmonds:
1900 census- Kings Co., N.Y. born c1875 Ireland have this
1910 census- Kings Co. (Landon W.L. Edmonds) born c1875 & son? Landon W.L. born c1910
1920 census- Kings Co. Landon born c1875 & Landon Jr. b.c1911
1930 census- Kings Co. Landon K? born c1875 & Landon W. born c1910
WWI draft reg.- Landon William L. Edmonds
N.Y. Passenger lists- 9? entries (can't get on Ellis Island- at least 2 seem to be 1925/1930).

Austin Cooper Edmonds:
1900 census- Kings Co., N.Y. Austin C. Edmonds b.c1884 Texas have this
1910 census- Kings Co.- Austin Edmonds b.c1885
1920 census- Kings Co.- Austin C. Edmonds b.c1885
1930 census- Kings Co.- Austin Edmonds b.c1884
WWI draft reg- Austin Cooper Edmonds- res. Kings Co.
?WWII draft reg.- Austin Cooper Edmonds born Texas, res. N.Y.

Thanks for all the passenger information there. Texas makes sense as I think Austin Cooper Edmonds might have been born in Texas (WWII draft reg.).

Additional note: Austin C. Edmonds born in Texas according to 1900 census.

Thank you for the census records Lissa. I do have 1900 (from LDS site) but didn't have any way to get full details of later ones.

Maybe not the right people ??  Where did these sons come from ??

In 1930 the G-son Clarence above  is in Queens w/ wife Edith G. age 23 .  No children. He a Salesman for a Factory.

Not sure how this gets you to you closer to your original query re:  Mary Davidson dying in Ireland but hope it helps.   Asking the obvious, but why is her death in Ireland a mystery --  any evidence she followed her brother to the U.S. ??   Or because she is in the "wrong" county ?

As you know some feedback helps -- maybe you have posted for someone else  ....otherwise, think that's about all I can find.

Thank you for the additional census details.

Mary Davidson is a mystery for several reasons. She was born in Co. Longford (1846) but married first (1874) in Belfast and 2nd (1888) in Donaghadee (at sister's home). Not sure of her whereabouts until her death (1919) at Gorticloughan near Garvagh, County Londonderry at the home of a John Linton (have Linton family tree and can't find any connection yet). Obituary in local newpaper, buried at a local Presbyterian churchyard and has a headstone erected by her sister in South Africa.

Have been trying to find more about Mary Davidson and her family to see if I can discover why she came to Garvagh area and why the Lintons were looking after her.
