Possible lookup in Normanby-by-Spital
« on: Monday 14 July 08 23:19 BST (UK) »
I don't know if anyone is local to the Parish records at Normanby-by-Spital but, if so, you can maybe help solve a niggling mystery for me.

On 15 October 1848 a christening took place in the village of a Rebecca KIRBY whose parents were supposedly William and Mary.  William was my great-great-grandfather.

The mystery is that I cannot find Rebecca's birth through Civil Registration and a little bit of family myth and legend actually suggests that she was not a Kirby by birth (although clearly was christened as though she was!!!).

It's maybe a bit of a forlorn hope but I am banking on the record of the christening providing a clue!!!!  Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards.

Ian Holmes.

Thanks, Ricky ... just found that too!!!!

My hope is that the Parish register might give a bit more detail.  I have a deep suspicion that Rebecca was actually registered as Rebecca THOMPSON but can not find a marriage of my William KIRBY with a Mary THOMPSON at, around or after that date.  William had previously been married to a Frances and had at least three issue but she died in 1845.

My great-grandfather, Edward KIRBY, was born some years later and, from his birth certificate, it shows his mother as Mary KIRBY (formerly THOMPSON).

Hopefully the parish register can provide that little bit of gold-dust to solve the mystery!!!

Thanks for your help.

Ian.

Certainly do!!!

Took a while as the enumerator spelt the name CERBY rather than KIRBY.

It's on page HO107/638/2 in Ingham, Lincolnshire and shows:

William CERBY - 25 - Ag. Lab
Francise CERBY - 20
Marey CERBY - 2

Thanks, Geoff.

Found this myself in the dim distant mists of last night and have contacted David (see last post on thread).  Not sure if he is still active on the Forum (these posts were three years ago) but hope so as there seems to be a very strong link between our two trees.

Thanks very much for you help, though.

Ian.
