I note that the name is spelled Heslen in the 1851 Census of Scotland.

MacLysaght "The Surnames of Ireland" indicates that Leitrim is indeed the area from which the name comes:
Σ hEislin, originally Σ hEisleanαin.

In case you haven't come across them there were 45 Heslin households in Cloone parish in the 1901 census!

My family were from Leitrim. My grandads uncle was Peter Heslin, my grandads father being Bernard Heslin.
