Bucks Light Infantry - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 16 July 08 12:48 BST (UK) »
I have just obtained a marriage certificate of 1917 which states the groom was a Private in 1 (I think) Bucks Light Infantry.
The groom was born in Cornwall, married in Cornwall and had his 1st child in 1920 in Cornwall.
Can anyone explain why he would be in the Bucks Light Infantry?
Also, is there anywhere I can research for names in this Infantry.
I have checked CWG and my man isn't there, so assume he survived his army service at least til 1919 as a child born 1920.
Is Ancestry now the only place online with WW1 records, I seem to be going round in circles on UK National Archives.
Appreciate some help and guidance,
Thanks,  Sashar.

There was a regiment called The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry at that time. Here is a link to what they did during WW1 - http://www.1914-1918.net/oxbucks.htm.

Men could be conscripted or transferred to any regiment. If you post his name, and year and place of birth (if known) we can see if we can find him.

Was he still in the army in 1920?

I've attached (hopefully) a close up of marriage Cert where occupation is listed.
Be pleased if anyone thinks this could be something other than "Bucks Light Infantry".   I'm not entirely sure what the 1st word is and if the / is a 1.
Your input would be much appreciated - Sashar
