Dowds in Derbyshire...again!!

Anyone help me with this?
I have an Edward Dowd born c1847 in Derbyshire.However, I can't  find him in the 1851 census.
O'Dowd/Dowd -Cobh,Ireland & Derbyshire UK
O'Callaghan-Cobh,,Ireland
Sands-Cheshire
Gilmour-Ireland & Salford,Lancs.

Have you found him on the 1861 census

I notice he is on the 1881 and single.

Yes CaroleW. I sort of  know what happened 1881 onwards but it's the years between 1847(born in Derby to Irish parents) and 1881 I'm stuck on. Could they have gone 'home'?
