Hello Kamilla, In the 18th and 19th century the vast majority of the Irish population lived as small tenanet farmers on large estates owned for the most part by English or Anglo Irish Landlords.
The Landowner would let a significant area to a middleman ,who would then sublet to others,who might in turn rent out parts to the smallest tenants.
