John Jones DYER, Fingest
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 07:01 BST (UK) »
John Jones DYER, late Chief Clerk to the Admiralty (b 1799) died at Fingest House, Sep qr 1861.  He was in Greenwich for the 1851 census.

I wonder if he was buried at Fingest, or perhaps Hambledon? Apparently Fingest House is in Hambledon parish although its grounds are in Fingest and Fingest church is very much closer than Hambledon -  perhaps he was buried in Hambledon.  His wife - Therese Caroline DYER died in Greenwich in 1852 so perhaps he was buried with her?  I have no idea where she was buried either.

Any information about his life while in Fingest would be gratefully recieved!

I notice that Fingest and Hambleden parish registers are kept in the Bucks county archives at Aylesbury.  Should I move this to the Bucks board?

Thought for a second I might be able to help there then, but seen from my notes that Fingest is only transcribed in our local library up to 1841 and Hambledon up to 1837. These were done by the Oxfordshire Family History Society I believe, so you may have to find out whether they are originals that Aylesbury have got or whether they are still at the churches concerned. Might be worth an email to the church

good luck

Thanks, Jackie.  I'll give it a go.  The Fingest/hamblden and Bucks/Oxon overlaps are a bit of a pain.  Should I put this on the Bucks board, do you think?
