LOST - Henry Edgar WATERS
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 21:29 BST (UK) »
Henry Edgar Waters , born 1823 in Portsmouth , just before his family sailed with his father's regiment to India . (I found this in IGI) .
Next seen in the 1841 census in Stockport , with his mother and 2 of his siblings .
(It has been relatively easy to follow his 3 siblings because they wre all born in India)  .

After this I can't find any trace of him  - no marriage ; no death - nothing .

All Sherlock Holmeses are cordially invited to sleuth !

Could he have "joined up" and been sent abroad

Hello Carole
I have wondered about that , but don't know how to find out .
His  youngest brother did just that .  But Peter Waters left the army in 1878 ; began appearing on the census returns ; and was immediately identifiable because he had been born in India .
Because Henry only appears on the 1841 census , I don't know which place he would list as his place of birth (or year of birth) .

Do you know if there is any way of finding an annual list of recruits ?

Hi

Sorry - I'm useless when it comes to service info, particularly from that far back

How about posting a message on the Armed Forces board of Rootschat as there are a lot of very knowledgeable people with that type of info
