Thanks Rex, off to have a look.

Update: That looks interesting. I will investigate further.

On another passenger list site I did find a Mary Ann Gatley nee Trevivian listed with her husband and children arriving 1840.

Thanks again,

I have found a John Trevivian aged 38 and a miner, enlisting 20 Dec 1915 Australian Military from Kathleen Valley Western Australia. His sister K.Trevivian of Kadina South Australia given as his next of kin.
I also found burials of 4 Trevivians in Kadina Cemetery South Australia including Richard buried 17 Apr 1917 aged 82.
I believe he is the Richard Trevivian who arrived Port Adelaide 1857 on Royal Albert.

Thanks for the information Rex.

I've not been able to find Richard on the Royal Albert passenger list for 1856/1857, so I e-mailed the State Library of South Australia. Their reply was that there was a John Trevivian & wife on board the Royal Albert, arriving 29 Mar 1857, but no Richard.

They also supplied me with some death dates of various Richard Trevivian's all living Wallaroo mines. None of which appear to be the Richard born c1835 who was suposed to be on the Royal Albert in 1857

So now I'm totally confused !!

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

There is a Richard Trevivian aged 82 buried 17 Apr 1917 at Kadina Cemetery South Australia.
I also noticed reference  to "Reminiscences of Richard Trevivian are in the Observer (I assume South Australia) 7 Jan 1911 page 40c.Not sure how you could access this.

Maybe another e-mail to the library? Thanks I will look into that, might have some clues.

You've been great finding all this, I presume on the web? Are they sites I can access from the UK?

Hi Sue,

Would you expect the father of Richard to be James?

Richard TREVIVIAN Status unlisted 22 Father James = PERCE Mary Single 20 father John 14 Dec 1858 res of Thomas Waters Strathalbyn Dist Str 36 182

Looks like 8 Children Wallaroo Mines (Mum Pearce, Perce, Pierce)

As Rex mentioned he is buried in Kadina with his wife and I expect 2 of his children although I don't see a birth for Annie but we have early gaps in births to Richard and Mary so either they ventured interstate or births were not registered) The 4 are buried together and Annie's death lists her as single.

Sue
I Googled Kadina+Trevivian also Wallaroo Mines.
Richard Trevivian married Mary Ann Pearce (I saw Purse somewhere).
They lived at Wallaroo Mines, had four sons and 3 daughters all born Kadina S.A.
Mary Ann aged 67 was buried 10 Oct.1907.
One of the Census (1851 Kia has a William Chynewath 76 father in law, living with James Trevivian and his wife Mary Ann.I think this suggests this Mary Ann was nee Chynewath.
I think it was their son Richard, then 15 who came to Australia in 1857.
I hope I am not confusing matters.

Yes I think this is correct although I thought there were only 7 children. The spelling of his wife's name
suggests we are speaking of the same family.
One of the children John (b1877) joined the Australian Military in Kathleen Valley Western Australia 20 Dec 1915.He gave his sister K Trevivian of Kadina South Australia as his NOK.
John had a sister Catherine (known as Kate) b1870.
Another sibling b1866 is also buried Kadina aged 45.

I have noticed that there may be a connection to the Chynewath/Chynoweth/Chynoweth family.
The 1851 Census Kea has a William Chynewath, father in law living with the family of James and Mary Ann Trevivian.Suggests Mary Ann was nee Chynewath or similar.Son Richard was gone by 1861.
