You dont rate the GRO entry then Nell ?

Did I say that?  No, I just thought I would check the IOW index for the mother's maiden name - nothing like being thorough ;D  And it threw up an interesting conundrum.

And a family historian likes nothing better than a puzzle.  ;)

I have sent off for the I.O.W Cert not the G.R.O. as I think that it will be more interesting, I may well send off for the G.R.O. if the I.O.W. one doesn't clear up the mystery, they have said it should be with me by Wednesday, so hopefully this little conundrum will be solved then :)

lets wait and see

oops  :-[ forgot to thank Daisypetal for their contribution, I am waiting to see what the cert has to say, as IGI can be a bit unreliable at times.

 Meanwhile I will search the 1841 census for a John Payne and see where that leads  :)

Oh I do love a good juicy puzzle

Hi All,

The Certificate has arrived  :) :) :) :) :) :)

It ties up nearly all that between them Daisypetal, Little Nell and The Newfster had come up with :-

Born 3/11/1840 at Ryde

Harriet

Girl

Father = Edward Rann, Mariner
Mother = Mary Payne

Sig description etc of Informant = X the mark of Sarah Groves, Occupier, Ryde
24/11/1840

So we have Harriet, the Daughter of Edward Rann and Mary Payne, probably born at the Home of John and Sarah Groves, as per Daisypetal's Census find for 1841.

All in all couldn't be happier, apart from not actually having an address on the Certificate, I think between us all we picked the bones of this one really well.

A big thanks to Daisypetal, Little Nell and The Newfster

 :) :) :) :)
