Burns: Manchester & Fryup,Danby
« on: Friday 25 July 08 17:20 BST (UK) »
My mothers, mothers name was Burns and they were christened in the Cathedral,Manchester. She later lived in Salford.
The following Member was my great grandmothers brother.
Robert BURNS,  School Master with his family in 1881 at Great Fryup School Cottage, Danby.

 Amelia BURNS     Wife
 Ricd.Thos. BURNS     Son
 Robert BURNS     Son
 George Edward BURNS     Son

I believe he was still there in1910

The  Fryup school building must still be there?
There were family connections between Salford and Whitby, but they are now 'vanished'.

The name Burns in Manchester is particularly interesting because Frederick Engels was introduced to the horrors of 19th century industrial life by two Burns sisters, one of whom he eventually married. Engels provided a house for the ladies in Manchester.
I  believe that my family are not connected with this story, but the dates are right, and who knows?
