1841 Litchborough, Smith HELP!!!!
« on: Monday 24 January 05 23:58 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with a lookup Please.
In Litchborough 1841
I have a William Harmon Smith marrying  a Charlotte Liley in Islington Middlesex 1839
William says his home is Litchborough, he was a Gentleman, and later was a Butcher.
They have a son called William in about 1844, born Northampton.
Williams father was Henry Smith , a Carpenter.
He may be in the Census also.
later the family go to Yorkshire.
Thankyou.

Hi kenjo

I had a look through Litchborough 1841 but couldn't see this family.
There was a William Smith aged 19 unmarried labourer I think but no sign of Henry carpenter either.

regards

Kenjo:

I wonder if you have got any further with this line of enquiry which I have pulled off the shelf?

I am just beginning to look at my Smiths (I thought I would leave them until I had gained a bit of experience with some less common surnames) and William Harmon Smith is one of my 2xgt grandfathers.  From census data he claims to have been born in Haddon, Northants and was a butler (not butcher!) for most of his life.  He retired after the family he served died out and he then ran a post office.

At least one photo of him survives.  He is pictured in butler-style rig with formidable sideburns.
