COMPLETED - Grantham Deanery Marriages Index - COTTELL around 1812
« on: Tuesday 29 July 08 12:58 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the marriage of James Cottell of the Royal Marines, born about 1782.  He married a woman named Elizabeth who was born in Grantham Lincolnshire around 1792.  Their first child was born in 1813 so they may have been married around 1811 or 1812.

Although their first child was born at Gillingham (close to the Chatham naval base in Kent), their second child (Joseph Hall Cottell) was actually born at Grantham which would suggest that Elizabeth's family may have still been living at Grantham and hence the marriage may have been registered in Grantham.

I am trying to find the marriage date and Elizabeth's maiden name.

Please note that James Cottell's surname is sometimes written as Cottle.

I understand that the LFHS has published books and discs of the Grantham Deanery Marriage Indexes.

Much appreciate any help that you could provide.

Best regards,
Chris Mott

Thank you for your response.

This must be correct because one of Joseph Hall Cottell's daughters was named Elizabeth HILL Cottell.
