Hi all,
        Doing free research for a friend. Can anyone help to start us off?
All we have to start with is Dennis James Parkes 1929 1997 in Mansfield.
Married in Chesterfield 1948 to Kathleen J. Fretwell.
Any help greatly appreciated.

You need to start with a copy of his birth cert unless you already know the names of his parents and his mothers maiden name

Hello bigjon.....I might be able to help you with info on the above...my Great Grandparents James Parkes and Elizabeth Ann Parkes (Nee Wadsworth) lived in no. 4 Sansoms Yard from around 1873 until both of their passings there...Elizabeth 1909 and James 1931!!  I have an extensive Parkes family tree but on another site...

Hi John,

Yes I can confirm that the James you have on my Great Grandfather's Census is indeed the James Parkes you have!!!
Dennis James Parkes 1929-1997 born to parents James Parkes 9 June 1905-1977 and Flora Dennis.
Grandparents of Dennis:  Herbert Parkes March 1875-1946 and Mary Ann Johnson 1879-? (searching now)!
James was one of 8 children....I have their details, etc.
Herbert & Mary were married in Dec 1896 in Mansfield.
Herbert's parents are my great grandparents James Parkes 26 April 1850 in 47 Forest Side, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire - 23 Nov 1931 27 Clarkson Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.....and Elizabeth Ann Wadsworth 1856 Kirkby-in-Ashfield - 20 May 1909 in 4 Sansoms Yard, Mansfield!!!!
We're definitely related John!!  I have birth, marriage and death for most including census...Herbert was my Grandmother's brother!!!!!   Debs xx

    thanks so much for that info - now I have found the correct James ( I had 4 or 5 possibles ) I can go on and trace the family back.
    My sister married Raymond - the son of Dennis James Parkes but after their divorce, it is very hard to get any of the family to help with their family history.
You have provided me with the breakthrough I needed.
I see that you are new to Rootschat, it is a wonderfull site, so many nice people ( like yourself ) willing to help with all sorts of problems even restoring old or damaged photos.
