Searching for the death of Robert William Mawson
« on: Sunday 03 August 08 12:40 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am trying to find the death entry for Robert William Mawson.
Robert was born in 1878 in Fighting Cocks, Durham.
He married Margaret McGeorge and lived with there four kids at a farm in Seaton Deleval, Northumberland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

geordiepaul,

If he was born 1878, and could in theory have lived until he was about 100, he might not have died until the mid-1970's!

It is asking an awful lot for someone to try to find his death record without any more background information than his year of birth.

Do you have any idea of an approximate year of death. If not, do any family members have any idea?

Jennifer

All I know is that he was alive circa 1920.
My Grandfather wrote his memoirs but omitted any details on his Fathers (Robert William Mawsons) death.

If I can uncover any further details I will reply as soon as I can

Hi Paul,

If you're lucky you might find his death announcement or acknowledgement in the obits column of one of the local papers - Chronicle or Blyth News.

I know you're local so start off with Blyth library.  Upstairs is a card index with names appearing in the Blyth News.  If you can find the name it will give you the issue/date of the paper you need.  Staff will help with the microfilm containing that issue (if you need it) and you could get a date of death from there.  This would narrow your search very quickly.

Hi all,

I have done some digging and now know that Robert died sometime between 1955 and 1959.
If I can narrow the timespan further I will post here asap.

Many thanks one again.

JenB,

Thank you very much for looking that up for me.
Just shows that with the right questions you can get useful information from elderly relatives.

And how quickly I was able to find him given a reasonable time-frame within which to search  ;D
