Cotching and Henderson from Bucklow
« on: Monday 04 August 08 00:47 BST (UK) »
Hi I am researching my family tree on my mother's side. But don't have alot of info. My mother's full name was Betty Sutherland Campbell Henderson (b 1917 in Bucklow). She married Eric James Oliver (b 1899).   Her mother's maiden name was Cotching. Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

I take it you don't have your mother's birth certificate? Her birth registration is
March Quarter 1917   Bucklow    8a   250  which is the GRO reference  but can be ordered through the Cheshire bmd website at http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

That would give you her father's name as well as her mother's, do you know her mother's forename?  Then you could find their marriage

The only Henderson/Cotching marriage I can see is this one in Coventry:
Mar 1915 Coventry  6d   1006
Violet G Cotching  and  John S C Henderson

The only Violet G. Cotching birth I can find is Dec 1887  Norwich 4b   115

Do you think these could be correct?

Barbara  :)

The information you have given looks very promising. The name Violet is ringing a bell for me. As is John (Henderson). It would make sense because that was the name given to my brother.   But then I am sure my great uncle's name was Arthur, which does not show in the census info.

  :) :)

Thank you.

Perhaps Arthur was on the Henderson side of the family.

There is a birth registration which seems to tie in with your mother's name for
Mar 1885 Chorlton    8c   864
John Sutherland C.  HENDERSON

Chorlton in Lancashire of course, they certainly seemed to move about a bit!

So the marriage to Violet looks promising, given his forenames

Will look for him in the census now, and see if Arthur was his brother

Yes the John Sutherland C Henderson is a very strong link and agree ties in with my mother's names.
I remember also there was a very strong Scottish link in there somewhere.
