Richard Jones - 1861, 1871
« on: Monday 04 August 08 12:04 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Looking for Richard Jones, born June 1851 at Shifnal, Shropshire, son of Edward.

Believed to have moved to Staffordshire, possibly Gnosall area. Can anyone find him in 1861 and 1871.

Thanks,
Maurice

Edward J son 1 High Offley

Mary Wem  (Wern?) visitor U 32 late teacher Trench Wellington Salop
Maria Wem visitor 35 annuitant Trench wellington Salop
RG10 2813 114 13

the ages of Humphrey J greenfield and wife martha are very clear!
and Humphrey is to be found on earlier census.

There is this marriage freeBMD

Newport S 1867 6a 1073
on same page
Humphrey james greenfield
martha Jones

so was martha related to Richard and Edward??

the other 2 names on page are
Edward Jones
Sarah swanwick

1871 Edward Jones clearly states marr -but there is no wife with him - wonder if this could be a marriage for Edward too?

Only possibilities - as Jones is not an unusual name!!!!!!

Hi Suz,

Thank-you for the above.

Martha was Edward's daughter, Richard's sister; so that fits.

Edward's wife was Elizabeth who, according to the 1851 census [HO107/1987/348/p25] was born 'Wales', so that narrows it down a bit.   :)

Regards,
Maurice

Just noticed Elizabeth's birthplace in the 1861, so getting closer.

I'll try to decipher Elizabeth's  p.o.b. more on 1861

Have edited Elizabeth's age in 1861 -it is 48 -sorry about that error

Her p.o.b. is transcribed as Butterton

but the tail of the "Y" from "Westberry" in line above comes over Elizabeth's p.o.b.

It could read "Bulleston" or "Bwluston" -but even the "on" at the end is not very clear???

Maybe others could give their opinion????

Hi

Elizabeth's PoB in 61 looks to me like Butterton.  Genuki has a Buttington, which has got to be a good bet.

Cheers
