Hi,
I'm trying to verify the birth of Edward Pepper, according to an extracted record on the IGI he was born 20/08/1801 and Christened 28/08/1803, St Mary the Virgin, Dover
His parents are also recorded on an extracted record on the IGI as being married 24/08/1802, St Mary the Virgin, Dover.
It could well be that Edward was born "wrong side of the blanket" - but I'm just querying the dates and wondering if his birth could read 20/08/1803 - seems odd that he should be christened 2 years and one week after his birth.
I would have thought it much more likely that he would have been Christened at a week old - given the rates of infant mortality at the time.
The other children in the family appear to have been Christened within weeks if not days of their births and Edward's Christening was not part of a family "job-lot", which I have found in some of my other families!
Can anyone help?
