Streets in Plymouth
« on: Wednesday 13 August 08 04:00 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have been looking for Henry Street and Richmond Street in Plymouth on both old (1877) and new maps until my eyes are watering.  I find a current "Richmond Walk" that  had the same name in 1877, and a very short "Richmond Road".  Haven't found Henry Street at all.

Any idea where they are/were circa 1870?

Richmond Street was also in the parish of St Andrews (as per the 1881 Census).
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

raa & Dave,

Thank you - that helps.  At least it is near the Royal Marine barracks where the father was stationed so it will help me limit the area of my search on the old maps.

I was discouraged to see that streets run both East - West and North - South; in the States one can usually count on streets only running E-W as roads running N-S are called "avenues".  It helps a bit to get one oriented.
