Melling. In Cheshire?
« on: Wednesday 26 January 05 19:01 GMT (UK) »
Help please.
Was Melling in Cheshire or Lancashire c. mid 1800s?Having trouble tracing Sourbutts family, but think there may be a connection with PearTree Farm, Melling.

Any help would be much appreciated. At a dead end.

Hi Carol
As far as I am aware Melling Nr Ormskirk has allways been in Lancashire.

Hi

Melling is in Lancashire.  In 1835 Melling was a township in the parish of Halsall, Lancashire.

I was born not too far away.

Hi jimmy mac (motown fan by any chance?)
Thanks for the info.Sorry for slow response. Christmas & all that stuff, you know!

The farm could well be the one.......I remember visiting as a small child.......it was a typical symmetrical house with a path leading from the front gate, through the centre of the garden, to a door in the middle front of the house, with a small porch over and windows at either side.Seem to recall it was red brick.
When I was little my lasting memory is of a garden full of daffodils ( I think we must have always visited at easter time!)
It's over 40 years since I was last there, but I can still smell those daffs now.....

Guessing you live in the area?
Carol :)
