Jack / Jacksons from Buncrana
« on: Thursday 14 August 08 15:42 BST (UK) »
Hi, I've already posted in a different area of Rootschat and got a good response. My  grandfather's birth certificate has just materialised and has caused more questions than it answers!!!He was called Aexander Jack, born in Owenir/sk (difficult to read!! ) on the 28th November 1889.His father was called George Jack and his mother's maiden name was Brannon, Bridget. His birth was registered on 10thDecember 1889. My great grandfather is recorded as being a farmer. However by the time I arrived the family was called Jackson.I knew my grandfather as Alexander Jackson. I understand he had a grocery/bar in Buncrana. The building still stands I'm told.Around the turn of the century he married Anne McKeeting from Downpatrick and they moved to Belfast. I'm interested to know of any relatives in Donegal , Brannons or Jacksons and especially why the name was slightly changed. Was this common practice??? I think there were at least two other brothers apart from Alexander, George and  William. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brendan Jackson
